To Ben in Colorado

by Kellie Lyn Fournier

there was a night
we spent raving together
getting drunk and falling for each other
just for that one night
you spent hours writing Bauhaus lyrics
up and down my arms
turning me into a BiC tattoo
you must have asked me to marry you at least a dozen times
forgetting all about it when you sobered up
and your best friend screamed at you
for taking me from him
though neither of us knew he liked me at all
you stopped calling me then
and slowly the black ink wore off
you must have realized that you had placed yourself
on top of a block of ice
and it was melting
slowly
