A New World

by by Van Anderson

If I could weave a net for light
I’d skim the waves of all the lakes
for all the glitter I’ve ever seen.

One lake each day would fill one life, at least,
and by the end I’d have enough
for sun and moon and all the stars above

another earth whose little lakes
would glisten day and night
and charge the universe with light.
