That light-footed feeling, long days and subways
avenues little trees shops that tempted me 
under the brownstones
three steps down.

All easy movement, running and stillness, sunrise 
and sunset,  sex and innocence in the same cup.
Kisses that made me tremble all over. 
Stumbling in darkness,

knocking the lamp down, falling 
onto the bed for that trembling.

I could never forget 
the shape of his eyes --
