It Was Enough

by Christopher Kuhl

A river

seamless water

it was enough,

the wind easing

the clouds along

revealing a cerulean sky

               a breath

of breeze closer to

water one look upstream

and then, looking

back, blue gone

over to gray,

sweet grass

by the water trembling

lightly: it was

enough it was

               enough

and I lay down

to watch and rest, sleeping

forever far from where

I was meant to lie
